looks like the 'N' bridge is maintaining a better / consistent connection and hence more reliable connection than the built-in Touch wireless. That's probably all. I've never considered the Touch / Radio / Boom / SB3 devices as great at maintaining a robust WiFi connection. Of the 4, I think my old Boom maintains connection the best (I have it 2 floors up from my router and it works great still wirelessly).
5GHz is great when there are too many devices in the 2.4GHz spectrum. It also can be faster. However, range is *poorer* in general so I'm not surprised that it doesn't work to the garage.
