Unless you were handed the hard drive(s), you listened to copies made over the internet. It could be that the original files were somehow different and that the difference got lost during the file upload or the file download.
If you compare digital copying and analog copying, in each case the "original" will be different from the "copy". The difference between analog and digital is that with analog the copy will always be worse than the original. With digital, the copy can be better than the original.
