I don't know whether this is true or not, but if it is it means that the people behind EAC have gone over to the dark side and EAC should be totally shunned.
I haven't downloaded EAC for years. I use dBpoweramp and just payed for the recent update. If you do any serious ripping the price is more than worth it for the included access to the Internet tag databases and the excellent file conversion programs and batch converter. Last time I checked, dBpoweramp was much easier to set up than EAC...
