RE: DSD DACs that handle DSD natively and via SPDIF?

My Mytek upsamples the input DSD, in the process converting the signal to multi-bit PCM and remodulating the result to 8 bits at a 40 MHz+ sample rate. (This is done by the SABRE chip. It also can apply a digital volume control in the process, which I use.) This DAC does sound good, but I would not call it "native DSD". For that you would need to take a raw bitstream and put it through an analog low pass filter. There are a few DACs that work this way, but the Mytek is not one of them. The Mytek does sound good, IMO, but then others say that my entire system is "mid-fi" because my playback chain cost under $10,000.

With this DAC I have found that both DSD64 and DSD128 work in native mode over USB 2.0, Both of these formats work over Firewire using DoP with appropriate setup. I haven't tried these over SPDIF or AES/EBU, so I can't say whether both DSD64 and DSD128 work over these interconnects. In all cases, the player software that I used was HQPlayer.

In any event, I don't think that the issue of "natively" is particularly important. IMO, what is important is what one hears.
