RE: A cursory look tells me ...

To see an ext HD USB you need to use the Mount utility at the bottom of the screen; for a NAS it is slightly more complicated.
Initially, in order to simply test the syste, just put some files of your choice in a directory of your system disc.

Re WAV playback, I have not solved it yet...I have not done anything about it though. However, I know for sure that Deadbeef can playback wav files under Ubuntu Linux. Therefore it just a question of system setup, because Deadbeef has a plugin incorporated to "supposedly" playing back WAVs. It can read CUEs referring to WAV.
