Tiny Core Linux + Deadbeef

Following some messages by fellow inmate hfavandepas, as I also come from the cMP2 camp (and still promoting it), I decided to have a go at Tiny Core Linux using Deadbef as a music player. I am starting this thread to encourage discussion about such system.

Setting a TCL system up is very simple even for a non-Linux user like me. Initially, one can save everything on a USB pendrive and load the OS directly from there. Literally, one downloads a 12 MB image file of TCL, loads it onto a USB pendrive with Core2usb and start-up the system with that. That's it! Then, one downloads ALSA and Deadbeef. It is best to backup before exiting so your session settings are saved. If your sound card/DAC is recognized by ALSA (many nowadays are), you are ready to listen to some music.

Sound quality is immediately impressive. Playback can be bit-perfect or upsampled using the included SRC Resampler (one of the features in common with cPlay). Music files can be read from the system drive. In order to read a music library from external HD or NAS, the drive has to be mounted. Therefore, for initial testing one can put some music in a folder on the system drive.

As a newbie suggestions from more expert users are welcomed. I also have a few questions.

1) With no DSP involved (so ALSA bit-perfect), if I choose to playback two different resolutions files (ie 44.1 and 96 kHz), ALSA does not automatically recognize the different resolution passing from one to the other even if I stop playback in between. I have to start/stop/restart. Can this be avoided? I have only load ALSA app, no extra utility.

2) At the moment ALSA settins are Buffer:8192 and Period:1024. What is your best setting and how did you go about it? Did you measure, for example, CPU utilization?

3) I think I have read that Deadbeef supports SoX Resampler too. Am I correct? Does it need to be compiled? Has anybody done it?

Please share your experience. Thank you.
