Even though I am not a big proponent of DSD (see my blog pages...), I do believe that audio should be heard in whatever format it was originally recorded. Going from DSD to PCM sounds fine (eg. A good conversion of DSD64 to 24/88 with Weiss Saracon sounds excellent) but there will be losses so IMO best to be avoided ideally. Now I think Weiss' warning is unnecessarily catastrophic though... We've already gone through multiple generations of SACD gear with varying steepness of analogue filters and I have yet to hear of anyone blowing up their amp. Furthermore, many folks prefer the less steep filter (with higher ultrasonic noise) even as early as the Sony SCD-1 days.
Sure, it's good to remove ultrasonic noise, but I don't think anyone seriously advocates a brick-wall filter as being an absolute necessity...
