RE: yes, correct, - facts don't help much for subjective, variances,

Audio gear as "artisan products", eh?

Not sure I would agree with that statement either. I'm happy to leave the music artists as the real artisans.

Sure, if you're subjectively evaluating the "sound" of a product then it always remains as an opinion. But in a properly conducted blind test, the question is generally can you tell the *difference* between that Meitner vs. Sony gear first, then choose which one you think is better subjectively.

Ultimately we have to decide what's valuable for ourselves and be honest about our own discriminatory abilities. All I can say is that in properly done trials, I have never once been able to find any of my audiophile friends can discriminate the usual hocus pocus in blind tests when the quality of gear is "good enough" based on general engineering principles. This is with an n of about 15 people. I could be wrong (we're not talking about universal laws of nature) but for now, that's in "fact" what I have and have yet to see anything published by pro's to counter this.

BTW, I have tried expensive speaker, USB, and interconnects... To this day, I'm quite happy with shielded Radio Shacks, and 12-guage OFC speaker cables. I of course encourage others to try.
