RE: Another option, maybe, is device based on the CM6631 chip

I just got one of these CM6631's yesterday...

Works well off my USB port. Preliminary jitter analysis shows it to be very clean with both coax and TosLink but this is also dependent on your DAC.

A good deal for ~50 bucks.

BTW: make sure to get the Emotiva drivers for Win8. So far still have not been able to get ASIO working on mine. Have not tried OSX but supposedly plug-and-play.
