RE: Anyone here using RightMark Audio Analyzer?

Good post Presto.

I spent an hour around lunchtime playing with this and remain impressed how consistent I'm finding the results from RMAA. We're talking +/-0.5dB differences with dynamic range of > 112dB and stereo crosstalk <-100dB between trials (Xonar Essence 1 with LM4562 opamps into the EMU0404 with generic balanced cables).

Really opens one's eyes into equipment quality beyond the pure subjective bits although of course that's ++ important.

For fun, I ran the laptop headphone out to measure - as expected, unable to achieve > 90dB dynamic range even with 24-bit data. All things considered, I guess that's still very reasonable with all the noise pollution hanging around.

BTW: You're also correct about making sure the output settings are truly at 24-bit and bit-perfect... I can see how folks can get that wrong and inadvertently find equipment underperformance. I see that RMAA has a Pro version which uses ASIO. Will have to see if there's a trial version.
