Looks like we have all sorts of high speed interfaces these days. Double SuperSpeed USB3 has also been announced now:

Unless there's a compelling reason otherwise, I think the next DAC-type device I'd consider would be something with HDMI done right (ie. low jitter) with support for high-res PCM and multichannel. DSD could of course be supported but I suspect will linger as a niche format as I really doubt there will be much interest there unless some major players step up to the plate and provide leadership.
Something I would love to see come to light would be something like a multichannel Transporter which can output good 5.1 analog and HDMI streaming over the home network!
