You are mistaken, sir...

Sprezza Tura says: "Since HDTracks was a major topic here..they provide excellent examples.

Compare the HDTracks download of Gary Clark Jrs album Blak and Blue to the CD. The CD is a FULL 5 DB louder, basically at clipping. So OBVIOUSLY this was NOT done during the mix.

Second example..Rush's ClockWork Angels...the download and the CD are again worlds apart in dynamic range.

Third example...the Stones Some Girls and Exile remasters...a good 10 DB louder than the Bob Ludwig remasters from the mid 90s.

I think you need reevaluate your stance on no heavy compression or eq added during mastering."

Sir, I believe you are quite mistaken about HDTracks among other things. On the whole I find their releases very spotty and the actual audio quality not much different from the CD's (if any at all). Unless the release is specified as "uncompressed", the mastering is essentially the same as CD.

Your second example of Clockwork Angels is a good one. The 24/96 release has a DR7 which is the same as the CD release. Here are the results:

Tell me, how is that "worlds apart"?

Others should treat your posts extremely suspect as a result of these comments. Also, I do not understand your issues with Steve Hoffman. He's not Vlado Meller... Show us some DR results from Steve Hoffman that proves his use of compression. I'm no fanboy but do respect the man's work in general over the years.
