I'm with you there PeterZ. I have an AMD A10 APU based server running Win8 underclocked and undervolted running light web server duties connected to my TV for occasional HTPC duties.Logitech Media Server sends music across the network. So long as my streamers don't buffer underrun, no problem.
My main PC - AMD X6 - multitasks all the time and plays music to the XONAR Essence One up to 24/192 over USB without a hitch. Never noticed a difference whether CPU at 1% or 100% unless there's some buffer issues like the HD going crazy and having file access issues.
