RE: To be fair - Tony's preferences in music are well-known, and those 3 tracks...

Tony: "I no longer do any "social" or "scientifc" blind tests. Their advocates are invariably on a crusade to prove a point, typically that differences are inaudible. My experience shows that should someone be able to reliably and consistently hear differences, these people will dismiss them, blaming them on experimental error if nothing else. On the other hand, if the listeners were unable to reach statistical significance these people claim victory, believing that it is possible to prove the null hypothesis. What they have proven is their ignorance of statistics and scientific method."

Fine, so be it.

I do take offense of the idea of being "on a crusade to prove a point". I have purposely structured the survey to record the price point of the respondent's audio system with the audibility of this test. The reason being I DO BELIEVE that better equipment SHOULD result in a better rate of accuracy; that's why I enjoy being here and listening to people's recommendations on hardware, etc... and presenting it here and on boards where I know the participants are serious about audio quality - even on the more objectivist forums. It's not like I'm setting this up and inviting Joe Blow and his white Apple earbuds on a Shuffle(that's fine too so long as he's honest about ranking his gear as <$100!).

This of course does not mean EXPENSIVE GEAR = BETTER, but rather that people who spend the money and willing to take the test seriously are also those who can appreciate the equivalent of fine wine. Whether this pans out or not we'll see.
