"Better yet - should it change any minds? Ones who hear, will hear - and those who don't, won't.It's not going to change anything anyway."
Well, I think the important thing is perspective... When the general public is faced with articles like the quote below from Wired and Neil Young's raving:
"Young’s big beef: Digital music files download quickly, but suffer a significant loss in quality. Bitrates for most tracks on iTunes average 256kbps AAC audio encoding, which is drastically inferior to the quality of recorded source material in almost every case. By Young’s estimation, CDs offer only 15 percent of the recording information contained on the master tracks. Convert that CD-quality audio to MP3 or AAC, and you’ve lost a great deal of richness and complexity."
(http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/02/why-neil-young-hates-mp3-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/)One really gets the sense that AAC and MP3 must be horrendous! After all, it's "15%" of the "information", and it's "drastically inferior".
I agree it is inferior and honestly all my music is stored/archived in FLAC unless I can only buy it in MP3/AAC. That being said, I feel it's still not that bad. The "medium" or "format" is not the issue and I do not believe that compromising down to MP3 is really a problem in terms of ability to enjoy the music.
I do not expect any one of us to suddenly convert everything to MP3, but if it allows us to experience the difference for ourselves, that's of worth in itself and broadens our understanding beyond just a generalization of "MP3 is crap!".
