RE: Seriously guys... Just how much *true* 24/192 is there?

"192/24 recordings made from tape can be high resolution. There are many people who consider tape to be higher resolution than any available digital format, at least for some musical genres. (Comment applies to 15 IPS or faster tape.)"

Agree, tape is fine and if this is a tape transfer, then that's good... I have some concerns whether this is the case with this particular title, however since the ultrasonic noise characteristic seems too flat and it certainly does not look like noise shaping from a DSD conversion so what's why I said "at best" this is an analogue tape transfer.

"Your argument that 96 kHz is sufficient because there are no higher frequencies above 25 kHz makes an unstated assumption: that the benefit of 192 kHz over 92 kHz comes solely from more extended high frequency response. This assumption is incorrect..."

I disagree. I know folks will compare 24/192 with downsampled 24/96 and wax poetic about how much better the 4x sampling rates (192 & 176) are but this makes no sense to me intellectually as well as through experience. If anything, content with excessive ultrasonic content often leads to distortion in the audible spectrum since no amplifier/speaker combo is perfect(there's an ultrasonic warble tone floating around to have a listen to).

Perhaps some DAC's are better able to reproduce higher sample rates and sound better at 192kHz than 96kHz, but that says nothing about the content of the file itself, just the particular converter. IMO those impulse response graphs are meaningless and do not represent *sound*. Sure, impulse response looks better at higher sampling rate especially in the MHz range like SACD. So what? What frequency does that impulse represent in terms of sound *waves*? How does it matter in actual music? Looks to me like those graphs were constructed as a sales tool probably initially by the DSD marketers...
