Whether you care for the TosLink or DAC1...
Do you need an "optimal resolution system" to tell the difference between a wifi streaming program, data possibly downconverted by SOX generically output to CoreAudio and that same file stored on an SSD, played back from RAM, with the program taking exclusive access of the computer and sending the data by "integer mode"? This is about as fundamentally different in terms of software/data handling as you can get on a Mac!
What kind of hardware do you suggest then to try this with?
