Don't even need to buy to get a comparison. Just download the high quality samples from 2L and downsample to 16/44 yourself:
http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html
When I do this (24/96 --> 16/44 with Adobe Audition, C2 noise shaping, triangular dither) I have a tough enough time telling 16/44 from 24/96 (*maybe* just a little more 'air' with hi-res). No way I can tell difference from 24/96 to 24/192 in an ABX/unsighted test through Benchmark DAC1 to Sennheiser HD800 headphones.
