RE: ORLY?

"I have measured the waveforms coming out of Toshlink connections at 96k, and they are not good, often with slow risetimes and mishaped wave shapes."

Okay, say you're right and the risetimes are slower and the shape isn't square/pulse.

So what? So long as the receiving unit interprets the signal in a good enough error-free fashion and has decent jitter rejection on the DAC...

These days, I have 2 Toslinks from my Transporter --> Behringer DEQ2496 for digital EQ room correction --> Transporter DAC.

With this setup, the simulated 10ns jitter on Stereophile Test CD2 is easily differentiated. No spurious blips or noise with 24/96 or the 24/88 SACD rips. I suspect that many folks here get too concerned about what essentially amounts to audibly irrelevant issues and forget to enjoy what is relevant (ie... the music?).

Well, I guess this place ain't called the asylum for nothin'! :-]
