The first thing I would ask is "What do i want to use this thing for!?"
If it's just to basically be a repository for music (and video) files so you can stream mainly to the PS3 and laptop, then nothing wrong with DLNA.
If you really want a top quality audio system, then I'd go for the dedicated audio streamer like SqueezeBox, Sonos, Linn whatever, etc. else, enter PC-Audio hell :-)
IMO it's really not that complicated. Lots of the talk here involves people who have a computer in the listening room they tweak to death but that's cuz they're playing it directly in the room to the DAC rather than streaming to another device...
