Yes, I've seen upper management work strange hours too. However, just as you noted with the minimum wage workers above, don't let the fact that they are "at work" fool you into thinking they are working. Executives also hide very well. 2-3 hours in the gym in the middle of the day coupled with 2-3 hour lunches, not to mention all of their mid-day errands, and yeah, they should be "working" 14-16 hour days.
It sounds like you are more friendly with that type, so it doesn't shock me that you would defend their opulent lifestyle. Personally, I wouldn't mind losing some of this "top talent" to other countries, the "team" will survive and flourish without them.
