Re: FUTTERMAN HG1

Sgt.Wilko, hi. Dont' think I've ever seen the HG1. Yes, the H3aa used 6LF6. As horizontal output tubes for television sets increased in power Julius would adopt the tube. As the screen size of color televisions grew so did the demands for horizontal drive. The 6LF6 was the end of the line for vacuum tubes of its type. The 6LF6 has become a rara avis. It was becoming so by the mid 80's. I remember the Zenith genius Harold Blumenstock telling me the 6LF6 were something like 35 cents during the hayday of American tv manufacture. The best ones were the Amperex made in Holland with tough bottles and excellent construction. The H3aa used to come with GE tubes, as I recall, which were shorter bottles and thinner glass. There was no power switch on the H3aa. Plugging them in was always a bit startling because the current inrush would cause the amps to jump - slightly. There was also a little start up groan as the power supply did its best with all those hungry cold filaments. Best wishes on your quest.
