It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

I have already noted my total lack of rodentine derrière to donate re: LvB's Triple Concerto,

Good post, thanks!

I have already noted my total lack of rodentine derrière to donate re: LvB's Triple Concerto, but, because the EMI companion SACD with that on it is so LAUGHABLY sharp, I carried on a correspondence of some length with the Berlin Phil's administration.

I stopped ambushing people when, for the good of my soul and sanity and liver, I gave up being in the newspapers as a trial lawyer, zo, I told the BerlP folks up front what my agenda was, and they were very professional in every way, and I really appreciated that. It was what it was, so, let the chips fall where they may. Bravi.

I forget what year the 3X was recorded, but, they told me that in the time frame that recording (one of Norman Lebrecht's "Worst"), was recorded, the BerlP tuned to 443 or 445 depending on who was in the chair at that time.

Which is exactly why Szell decided on a "tuning fork with a calibration pedigree" as the source for his A, and not an oboist who could beg off, "the dog ate my reed."

My ex-sister-in-law was a Boston Conservatory graduate flutist. I vividly recall the tsumani that went through the flute world when James Galway got his gold flute.

Much later, I mucked around with cryogenic processing at some length, and, the people I was mucking with reported that a flautist in Boston had sent a gold flute in (dduh, non-ferrrous) and to the delight of everyone, it sounded better after processing.

There are more things, Horatio, than they will let you take on airplane these days...

ATB,

jm
