It is refreshing to find posts about the sonic merits of audiophile recordings. I have many Mofi, XRCD, DCC, K2HD and SACD. I agree with the poster who said that the XRCD's were generally high quality. I disagree that they are better than the same recording in SACD (there are always exceptions but I mean generally). I have found out of the other labels I listed (non SACD) XRCD has provided the most consistently audible improvement from the original relaease. Mobile Fidelity has been the most erratic ranging from excellent to dismal. DCC has consistently provided a disappointingly marginal barely audible improvement. Finally K2HD is a mixed bag for me so far. I bought the entire CCR collection and they are uptilted in the upper frequencies which adds detail but at the cost of an unbalanced sounding recording. On the other hand, I have some jazz recordings in K2HD that are very good but they seem to follow the same formula, emphasized uppermid/treble. I have some excellent classical recordings in XRCD and SACD and like the SACD versions better.
It would be great if AA added a audiophile recrding category to their site. I am constantly trying to find reviews on SA-CD.net, here and anywhere else a google search turns up.
