One short add on I neglected. I have left no stone unturned in maxing this systems potential and have accumulated about $20,000 of the best signal tubes on the planet. I have been rolling them in and out for years and have a good handle on how they all sound and what to use to address specific shortcomings. The last piece in the puzzle was the single EL34 used in the Ming DA preamp (voltage regulation I think).
Ming DA has put ornamental rings around their tube sockets and the tube considered the best EL34 available (Mullard XF1 double halo getter) has a wider base than all that followed and would not fit into my preamps socket. I went for the next best option (Mullard XF2 double halo getter). Being a machinist and a certified tubaholic, I decided to turn the base down in a lathe and give it a listen. It worked, the tube survived the surgery and the improvement was HUGE! I read every available post on AA regarding comparisoms of the XF1 to the XF2. Almost all posters stated that they were about equivalent in performance.
There was one poster that I owe a debt of gratitude. His post stating that the XF1 bettered the XF2 gave me the impetus to try it. He heard some difference, not dramatic. His system was probably more resolving than the other posters and he could discern a clear difference. On my system the difference was breathtaking.
