RE: Any system can sound bad...

Hi all,

I'll give this one last shot. My initial post was scant on information
and therefore many respondants have made erroneous assumptions. Here is My system: Avalon Osiris speakers, Ming DA 2A3 preamp (I'll put it against any megabuck pre you can find and it will not come up short), CAT JL2 amp, Accustic Arts Drive 1 MK2 transport, Audio Logic 34MXL DAC,
IC's are Stealth Indra and GS50/50, SC's are Stealth Dream (quint wired),
Running Springs Danielle PLC, Dream State top of line PC's, Oyaide R1 outlet, footers:Aurios, Stillpoints and many highly effective tweaks. The listening room is 31' x 19.5 feet with a symmetrical ceiling that peakes at 13' in the center. It is the best listening room I have ever had. In short the system and room are first rate and the result with competent recordings are phenomenal (this includes the vast majority of my non-classical collection). I have about 2000 CD's and am trying to expand my appreciation of the classical genre (I like all music except rap). In this effort I have been reading (NPR 350 essential classics and online sites like classicalnotes.com) and listening exclusively to NPR on the radio (at work and in the car). I hear a lot of music I like and then purchase it only to find it sounds flat and lifeless when I play it at home (not all but too many). The best sounding classical piece I have in my meager classical collection (about 100) is Handel Water Music
by the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra conducted by Nicholas McGegan. Whoever recorded this should be the busiest engineer in the industry. So it is possible to record an orchestra impeccably. It is regretfully rarely the case. Thanks to all those that actually tried to offer constructive suggestions and especially those that emailed me their well considered thoughts. Sorry, to offend with the original posts title but
it is truly pathetic that all these wonderful performances are ruined by incompetent engineers.

Bart
