Re: How are the Quad 57 w/ Quad II mono blocks?

How is the bass on the Leak 20? How would you compare the sound of the Leak with the American Fishers, Scotts, Marantz, Pilots, etc...?

Thus far I've tried:

deHavilland Mercury preamp w/ Sargent-Rayment SR 5100 power amp
Sargent-Rayment SR 2000 preamp w/ Sargent-Rayment SR 5100 power amp
HH Scott LK-48
HH Scott 299C
deHavilland Mercury preamp w/ Dynaco St-70 poweramp

The best sound so far comes from the Scott 299C. Although it doesn't have the transparency and detail of the deHavilland/Rayment combo....it has more bass and a full sound that helps fill in what seems to be missing from the Quad's bass scenario. The SR preamp and poweramp did this also, but sounded so piss poor....the screetchy highs and confused sounding tone control circuitry was overpowering the positive effects of having the TONS of bass that the SR preamp adds to the equation. I realize the Quads are capable of all sorts of sound. Obviously placement is critical....and though they seem less sensitive to changes in amplification than the Tannoys....amplifier matching is absolutely critical as well.
