Currently I'm using a Sargent-Rayment SR 5100 EL34 poweramp, deHavilland Mercury preamp, and Music Hall CD25 HDCD player. I've been switching amps like mad...trying to find the magic combo....going through Scott 299C, LK-48, Dynaco ST-70....will be doing Fisher, Pilot, and Heathkit asap.In any case, what intrigues me about these Quad monos is that they were voiced to go with the 57s. Is this a magical combination? Does bass improve? How do these Quad amps sound? The funny thing is that I listen to primarily rock music and the Quads certainly don't seem ideally suited for this type of program material. If there is a combination that I can use that will get me close to what I want to hear and feel...I don't care how much money I have to spend. Save for the ridiculously lean bass, these Quad 57s are the best speaker I've ever heard. It's easy to see why they have such a following.
