Thinking about going over to the dark side

Well, the Gallo Reference III is not a box speaker, its not exactly a planar either. I love the sound of my 3.6's but was intrigued when I first heard it at the HE2003 in SF. I though it was one of the better sounding rooms at the show regardless of price. I only briefly listened to them and was quite impress with the sound and especially the bass. Now I'm reading all these glowing printed review from 6moons, BFS, and at Positive Feedback prelim review even compared it to the 3.6. The Ref. III does have a unique design unrival from any other manufacturer. Most expensive box speaker cost appear to pay for the enclosure but what if a designer spend the bulk on the drivers which is what Gallo does in these speakers. The CDT tweeter is a unique material, Piezo Kynar diaphragm that radiates 300 degree, no small sweet spot here. The midrange is a 4" dual carbon fiber 4-layer voice coil in a stainless steel sphere. The bass output is said to go down to the mid-20's with their optional bass amp. After reading in Stereophile's article on baffles and affects of diffraction, I could see why this unique design with its minimal baffle and enclosure makes these speaker disappear.

I'm going to have to audition these further and see how they compare to the 3.6's, would love to get them in the same room, but that's probably not probable. My only concern is to see how well all the drivers integrate together, only more auditioning will reveal their true nature. If the Ref. III do sound as good as they are reviewed and compare or rival my 3.6's, I could sell them, buy the Gallo's and still have change left, this is a crazy hobby.
