Dry ice works about as well as cryo for the short term, but the effect wears off. Cryo is permanent. In the case of older equipment, I don't recommend cryo. If you're not certain whether cryo will help, you can try treating with dry ice first.Some people have had some success with putting things in an ordinary freezer. The effect may not be as much as the above, and it will wear off more quickly than dry ice.
