Wendell wrote to say that the copper color comes from the coating, but the wire is actually aluminum. The lower mass would then I guess result from using the tweeter foil, which would give you a higher DCR. I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations yesterday based on the photo of the 1.7, if the 1.7's supertweeter segment was 2 ohms and the tweeter wire was used in the woofer, the woofer's resistance would be 13 ohms, assuming a single run of foil. But we're missing data, no way to calculate this without electrical or physical measurements of the ribbon. I plan to sneak into Steve Ford's tonight and peak under the socks of his 3.7's. Seriously, can someone do an impedance sweep on their 1.7's, or measure the DCR of the woofer and tweeter sections? Or just physically measure the width of the foil, since we already know how thick it is? Also an impedance sweep of the MMG's, it would be nice to know the Thiele-Small parameters so we can predict what will happen. I don't want to pester Wendell with this stuff, he's already gone above and beyond. Also, we need physical measurements of the wire length on the MMG's. I can't do an impedance sweep right now since everything is once again disassembled but if no one else has their socks off I'll try to find the time to measure mine.
