But if the resistance were four times as high because the cross-sectional area was one-fourth as much, for example, couldn't we just use two feed points and two separate parallel sections on one membrane, each with half the length, to get the total resistance back to the original value?

That would take care of what the amp sees. But we would still have four times the resistance, as far as what is driving the membrane at any point. So we would just have to use four times the power in order to get the same current as before, at any point, but now with only one-fourth the mass of the previous conductors.

Correct?
