RE: here is a Wendell Diller follow-up on hot-rodding Ferdinand Posche's "VW", REALLY

Should not be a problem as the resonance is not problematic. It does not have the same kind of nasty outcome as it does for cones - I ran the Neo8 full range including its main resonance at 300 hz. It is a small peak, and definitely sounds better at those frequencies than does the Tympani bass panel.

The original Tympani crossover rolls off the midrange well above the main resonance peak, and I douubt there is that much of a problem with the secondary resonances from the width dimension or the cavity resonance, as the original crossover puts the cavity res away from the bandpass.

The voice coil is etched on the Neo8, but I don't really hear a metalized poly sound. But then I don't really get that from the Sonicaps Gen I or Gen II either. The problem with the metalized film is oxygen leakage into the chamber, pin holes and the metal layer being made of small crystals. It is possible to obtain a more uniform metal layer with a few techniques and careful attention to sealing the deposition chamber. All of these add to the cost. So you can make a good sounding metal film layer.

I am thinking that the other issue is that there is no capacitive coupling through the membrane but accross the air between the traces.
