"You could find some rolls of the thin, narrow aluminum tape that they used to use on glass, for security systems. There's a guy over at diyaudo.com who makes his own planar magnetic speakers, using that stuff. He uses neodymium magnets (better efficiency but higher cost) and claims that he gets frequency responses from well below 20 Hz(!) to way above hearing range, for 2x2-foot panels. (No crossovers would be nice.) He actually makes the panels non-rectangular, i.e. with one side angled, so it doesn't resonate too much at any one frequency."Yeah, I think I saw that thread and pictures.
I however, don't think they sound any good at all because he has no membrane tension to talk about and anyone that has made or are making planars know that it will not sound good/adequate.
Sure You could hear those frequencies but at what quality and linearity??Anyway, You can make Your own aluminium strips with a roller cutter and a long steel ruler.
You "just" have to calculate to get the right right resistance in relation to the thickness length and the width. Here is a good place to start looking!

The one who succeeded was the one who didn't know it was impossible.
