You could find some rolls of the thin, narrow aluminum tape that they used to use on glass, for security systems. There's a guy over at diyaudo.com who makes his own planar magnetic speakers, using that stuff. He uses neodymium magnets (better efficiency but higher cost) and claims that he gets frequency responses from well below 20 Hz(!) to way above hearing range, for 2x2-foot panels. (No crossovers would be nice.) He actually makes the panels non-rectangular, i.e. with one side angled, so it doesn't resonate too much at any one frequency.
