Penn State's problems in the 4th Q are that even though they have some great skill position players now, they still haven't caught up with the Ohio State's, Michigan State's in the trenches. PSU's Oline and Dline are worn down and exposed, just like last year's Rose Bowl with USC.
As they continue to rebuild their program, they need to get better line help to go with their improved skill position talent.
Yes,Miss State did play Bama very tough. However,Miss State is a legit squad, they were 7-2 and ranked 16th when they lost to Bama in Mississippi.
Miss State had key wins over Texas A&M (35-14) and LSU (37-7).
Also, Bama was missing 2 starting LB's, and many feel that MSU has the best Oline in the country, even better than Bama.
Most teams stub their toes once or twice a year. Bama could easily have lost that game, as most good teams would have. Playing hurt, on the road, against a legit opponent. Maybe they had their eyes on Auburn in two weeks, who knows?
If USC had a close win, on the road, at #14 Washington State, would you think they were a lesser squad? Probably not.
Penn State is 8-2 right now, but they would probably be 6-4 at best if they played in the SEC West.
