Speaking of bears ...

...one night, quite late, while drinking around the campfire, we heard a very loud and terrifyingly long growl of a bear. It sure caught our attention !

I was sure it was on the other side of the river, but everyone ran inside just in case. I stayed put.

Then there was another growl, equally loud, same distance, but a very different tone.

Next thing I knew I was listening to a bear fight !

It was pretty damn exciting.

The camp is on the upper Kenai. If the water in the rapids is high enough you can shoot through (with a skilled guide) and make it up to Skilak Lake in about 30 minutes. The lake is glacier fed. The water is an iridescent green and is very, very cold.

I hear you when you say fishing is time consuming. Fly fishing is especially time consuming, which is why I more often spin fish. I can be out of the car and fishing in two minutes.

Fly fishing is like golf ...best to have at least half the day.

I am very lucky to have the friends I do. They take good care of me.

Dean.
