Some people can be real ...

...assholes.

My son Zach is at school in DC and lives nearby in Arlington, VA.

Last week someone got under is car, probably with a battery operated saws-all, and cut off his catalytic convertor.

They did a real hack-job and cut the exhaust header.

Repair estimates have ranged from $2500 for all Honda parts down to $2000 for aftermarket parts.

The car has 199.5K miles on it and I'd just changed the timing belt, water pump, ball joints and had put new brakes all around so he'd be good to go.

The car ran like a dream ...smooth and strong. Looked great too.

My ex did not have comprehensive insurance on it, we are SOL.

I've spent hours on the phone with re-sellers and junk yards and the best I can get for the car is $100.

I bought it new in '99 and drove it until my daughter got her license. She drove it to high school and two years in college.

Then we gave it to my son, who has been driving it since 2012.

It never failed any of us and was a joy to drive. Its got a V6, so it really moves.

We all loved that car and my mechanic was convinced it was good for another 100K miles. My son was excited to watch it turn 200K on his way home for Thanksgiving.

...but, we hadn't considered the possibility of an asshole.
