A buddy of mine has a home in Anchorage and owns a fishing camp (link below) in Sterling, on the Kenai River.By the way, I've mentioned my friends a lot in posts in this thread. These friends live all over the States and are all pals I've met through collecting fishing tackle.
Each September five of us meet at the camp on the Kenai and spend, what for me, is the best week of the year.
Sitting around a fire pit late at night, listening to the river, telling stories, drinking... I enjoy it more than the fishing.
I've spent enough time in Alaska to know, that like ME, VT and NH, its not for me. Now, if there existed a place like Maine with mild winters... I'd be all in.
I really have had enough of brutal winters.
Liking AK and upstate NY, I fully understand why you don't care for DC. They are different worlds.
