PSU DID have 2 losses, and none of the top 4 teams had 2 losses. Yes, PSU did beat OSU on a fluky block FG return for a TD late in the game. However, PSU got whipped by Michigan early in the season.

That's what makes this so tough, is how teams played early on versus how they are now. For instance, USC and Penn State could be a great game, because both teams have played very well lately. Michigan and Ohio State were dominant early, but not so much lately. Ohio State barely escaped both Michigan and Michigan State in their last two games. They are certainly not the dominant team that they were early in the season, same can be said for Michigan.

I think Clemson deserves to be there, one loss on a last second FG.
The non-conference schedule is a legitimate concern. If I were an AD I would certainly say that playing a cupcake is the way to go, as much as the the selection committee does not wish to endorse that. On one hand, they rewarded Washington for playing the 127th ranked non-conference schedule, while on the other hand they rewarded Ohio State for beating Oklahoma in Oklahoma on a non-conference schedule which also included wins over Bowling Green and Tulsa.

I agree that an 8 team playoff would seem to be the answer, though still teams ranked 9 and 10 would be complaining. As PSU head coach James Franklin said last night, even the NCAA March Madness tournament in basketball, which invites 65 teams, still has many complaints every year.

In the end, I don't see anyone beating Alabama this year, so it doesn't really matter. No one remembers who simply made the playoffs. I don't begrudge any that made it, as they all had better records than PSU's 11-2.

I'm just happy that PSU football is relevant again. Though I do feel they could beat Washington, I am sure that USC could be a great game too.
