I hate to watch folks live their life with their faces staring at their palms. As many tend to get too wrapped up on living a cyber-life instead of an actual life. Many have simply plugged themselves into the Matrix.

That said, I finally broke down and bought a smart phone two years ago for a new job. I'm a mechanic in the pharmaceutical industry, and I have to admit that it has many useful features. Taking photos and videos and sending them to my boss and fellow mechanics to help demonstrate problems in real time. As fast as some of the machines are running, video at 1/8 speed helps me to see the problem better in slow motion. That camera feature, and the flashlight are what I use most at work.

I have the minimum data coverage, so I don't use the phone much to browse the web. I still hate to see how many people sit in restaurants and other public gatherings, ignoring those that they are with, and "being" somewhere else. I have a sister who is terrible at this. She has her phone in her hand constantly, and is living her life through social media. She has to "check in" everywhere she goes and let everyone know what she is doing at all times. In my opinion this is ignorant, to constantly be in one place physically, and another place mentally.

Maybe I'm just old.
