Actually, I think baseball's biggest problem is the lack of baseball players, not athletes.

There are plenty of guys like Dominic Brown in MLB, 5 tool guys, can run, throw, field, hit for power and average. The problem is they do not understand how to play the game, and they really have no interest in it. They are simply there for their athleticism and a paycheck.

I would rather see MLB target and draft players who are not so athletically gifted, but have baseball in their blood, heart, and minds. Guys that live and breathe the game, who know where to throw the ball and what play to make. Baseball has more mental games than other sports like NFL or NBA, there is a bit of chess involved. In my opinion, athleticism is over-rated, and I can see the decline of the game because too many "athletic" players do not understand how to play it correctly.

Chase Utley is not as fast or strong as Dominic Brown, he cannot throw as hard either, but he is a MUCH better baseball player. You can see that seperation between ball players and athletes on almost any team, but it's more obvious in baseball.
