Re: Dynaco A-440 Transformer - Tertiary Windings

Very neat - I had wondered about the "jump" to A-470. If you ever decide to build up some MQ-460's let me know!

I've never seen an Acro TO-350 either (except on paper) - although I have one of the matching TP-550 power transformers here. As I figured a pair of TO-350's were unlikely to ever surface I eventually used it as the power transformer for my 211 amp (With FS-100 outputs). It's a massive power transformer, and runs cool and quiet.

The tertiary winding made good sense for the 6146, with it's low screen ratings - but I'm curious why Dynaco bothered for the EL34 which seems to tolerate UL coupling so nicely.

How tough are tertiary windings to build? Was it the complexity of winding/cost that kept them out of the mainstream?
