HiThe goal of both is exactly the same but its a case of “if I knew then what I know now†when I wrote the patent. Basically I arrived at some guidelines which I hadn’t known about when I drafted the Unity Application some years ago. When I started the new company, I decided to also apply for a new patent with “everything up to nowâ€.
The SH-50 shown in the paper is the best one so far, it measures pretty good but it sounds beautiful as a hifi speaker. One thing it can do that illustrates the synergy crossover / horn geometry is reproduce a square wave, from pretty darn good to fair (mic signal on an oscilloscope) from about 220Hz to 2500Hz (spanning 3 frequency ranges and 7 drivers). I’m trying to come up with a not too silly sized subwoofer to put under them for “living room†use. I have no dreams of mass market, this is for those whose wives have already moved out –or- have a room of there own to “put all your big ugly hifi stuff inâ€. Anyway, hope that helps.
Tom
