Oscar,I can only speak for McIntosh. Both the MX132 and current MX134 have three bypass modes which are pure analog. Pure Mono, Pure Stereo, and external 5.1 all use 215 steep analog resistor grid volume controls on each channel. Most pre/pros do have a bypass mode which bypasses the digital decoding engine but they still have digital volume controls. In the interest of full bit yield we run our decoders at full bit and use analog volume controls after the decoding.
