Cheapest way out of the need for a "fix" ..

Put together a second system of vintage stuff.

Limit yourself to two or three hundred dollars and see how good you can get it to sound.

I've done this several times. Its a win-win proposition, if done right. I'm listening to one such system now.

Be selective. Buy right... and you just might end up keeping it.

Worst case scenario, you totally screw up and waste a couple hundred bucks.

Better than loosing hundreds on a pair of cables that didn't live up to expectations.

The thrill is in the hunt.
