It was an experiment by McIntosh to produce a lower price receiver of McIntosh quality by using cheaper labor and was thought of a poor man's McIntosh 1900 ($950.00 list). These where sold from 1976-1980 (Orion Audio Blue Book). Parts where shipped to Japan for assembly and then shipped back to the US when completed. There where (4) speaker models made too, #'s 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 from sold 1975 - 1979. I have had (2) of these receivers, over the years and are very nice. Stereotech 1200 ($600.00 list).
