For what it is worth, my impression is that the Stradivarius violins were a bit "sharper" and biting in the treble range whereas the G. Guarneri del Gesu violins were a bit more robust, with a somewhat deeper tone. I believe the book describes the difference between these two types of violins as well--I would trust the opinions of those experts over my own. I did try to guess which type of violin was being played when randomizing the tracks, and was accurate more than 50% of the time, but nothing to write home about. If I were to hear them play live, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to tell you which was which. I do find such comparisons very interesting.
I have the CD of the Nora Jones release, and think it sounds pretty good.
