Just thought I'd share these two albums in case they go under someone's radar:
Katie Melua: "In Winter" (featuring the Gori Women's Choir). This is perhaps her best work since "Piece by Piece" and marks a dramatic departure from the pop influence of her former manager Mike Batt. Very impressive album, and if you like choirs, a good one to have
Nora Jones: "Day Breaks" I doubt this would go under the radar of any audiophile. She returns to her Jazz roots here. Very nice collection of songs, and well recorded.
Finally, for lovers of violin: The Miracle Makers--this is actually a 1988 book with 3CDs. Hard to find, and expensive. Got it from the library. Disc 3, in particular, is very interesting because it consists of the "Aurora" excerpt from Sibelius (Violin concerto, op. 47), played on 15 different Stradivarius violins, alternating with 15 different G. Guarneri del Gesu violins. Very interesting to compare the slightly different sounds of these violins on the same piece, played by the same person (Elmar Oliveira).
