I think one has to be selective in what one chooses to see. Last year, I saw Natalie Merchant in a venue which seated about 500; it was perfect. This year, saw Lucia Micarelli in a similar venue: also perfect.
The venue is important, and that may, in part, be determined by the type of music as well. I don't think the Rolling Stones would play in a venue of only 500.
